We will be hosting a full 5 event Strongman contest Saturday, January 17 at Inland Empire Barbell in San Bernardino. This contest is geared towards novice athletes who are looking to get their feet wet in the competitive field. It will also serve as a tune up for our May/June contest which will be sanctioned through United States Strongman. This means that there will be an opportunity to set records and get an invite to nationals. Visit www.UnitedStatesStrongman.com for more info on the organization.
One of our primary missions is to improve the competitive landscape for strength sports in the Inland Empire and Southern California. San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, and all of San Bernardino are home to millions of people, yet meets are few and far between. For the Jan 17 Strongman contest, there will be a heavyweight and lightweight division with the cutoff at 220lbs. For events where there are two weights listed, the athletes will have a choice of weight. One rep at a higher weight beats any reps at a lower weight. The events and weights are as follows:
Axle clean once and press for reps: LW 180/220 HW 220/260
Deadlift for reps: LW 365/425 HW 425/505
Sandbag Carry to Tire Flip 100ft each: LW 150bag/200bag/600tire HW 200bag/250bag/600tire
Yoke Walk 100ft: LW 500 HW 700
Arm over Arm Sled Pull: LW: Heavy HW: Heavier
Rules and warmups are at 11 with the contest starting at noon. Entry is $30 with prizes in each division. Capped at 10 people per division.
